The Middlemore Family Centre

The Sir John Middlemore Charitable Trust was established in 1872 to improve the life chances of children, who through no fault of their own, found themselves in the midst of desperate and deteriorating family relationships.

In the region of 6,000 children were migrated to Canada and Australia between 1873 and 1952. Former child migrants and their descendants may access information by applying in writing to the Company Secretary of The Sir John Middlemore Charitable Trust.

Over 130 years later, the Charitable Trust's sole activity is to manage and operate the Middlemore Family Centre in Bartley Green, Birmingham. This provides children and families in crisis with practical, emotional and social support in a community setting in order to develop positive family relationships and to improve the life prospects of children.
